Champange had autumn kids this year with a beautiful buck and doe born on September first. I am thrilled to have another Champagne daughter to retain in our herd because I see consistently strong performance from them both in the show ring and on the milkstand.
The sires is Better Wayz Bodacious *B who is backed by an exceptionally strong pedigree of does with Excellent udders and general appearance and who have some of the best production in the breed.
Both his dam and sire’s dam are EEEE 92 does who have milked more than 1300 lbs in a lactation. His dam, SG Better Wayz Harmony Carabear 3*M EEEE 92, is the new all time breed leader in butterfat and has been an ADGA Elite doe for the last six years. His sire’s dam, SG Better Wayz Isabelle 3*M EEEE 92, has made the top 10 list for butterfat multiple times and has been an ADGA Elite doe for the last four years.
SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M VEEE 91 gave us a gorgeous set of buck/doe twins this year. Both kids have beautiful top lines and are promising show prospects. It’s hard to beat their pedigree with their dam, sire’s dam and sire’s sire’s dam are all champion FS 91 does.
Ibn is an AI kid sired by SG Heaven’s Hollow Winter Soldier +B. Ibn has incredibly soft dairy skin, open ribbing, a tight front end assembly and beautiful angularity. He was one of those kids that was gorgeous from the day he hit the ground.
Ibn’s dam, GCH (penidng) Cabochon Amelia VEEE 91, is a beautifully angular doe with excellent capacity and one of the best foreudders in the breed scoring 41 on Linear Appraisal. Amelia milks more than 1,100 pounds in a lactation.
Ibn’s sire’s dam, SGCH Wyojem Wendy Kiki (EEEE 91), is a Superior Genetics Grand Champion who has many outstanding accomplishments including: -2012 National Reserve Best Udder -2013 National Champion Nigerian Dwarf -2014 Top Ten Milk Production -LA of EEEE 91 at 8 years old
This breeding brings together exceptional genetics for conformation and production from both their sire and dam. Champagne is a permanent champion and a Superior Genetics designated doe with an LA score of VEEE 91. Champagne have proven her ability to produce exceptional daughters with the most outstanding being SGCH Cabochon Petit Sirah 2*M VVEE 90. I am expecting this little doeling to follow in the family footsteps.
Her sire, Cabochon SIG Marco Polo, excels in general appearance and dairy character and is sired by the 2015 ADGA Spotlight Sale Nigerian Dwarf Buck, Heaven’s Hollow Sig Sauer. We love his front end assembly and his angularity.
Marco’s dam, Cabochon Amelia VEEE 91, is a beautiful doe with excellent conformation and exceptional production milking more than 1,100 pounds in her third lactation.
Marco’s sire’s dam, SGCH Wyojem Wendy Kiki (EEEE 91), is a Superior Genetics Grand Champion who has many outstanding accomplishments including: -2012 National Reserve Best Udder -2013 National Champion Nigerian Dwarf -2014 Top Ten Milk Production -LA of EEEE 91 at 8 years old
I am retaining this magnificent doeling for our breeding program.
Champagne delivered three little white “Mini Mes” on Sunday, April 8. (Okay, one boy is actually gold, but it’s such a light gold that he looks white. ) The first buckling is for sale as a herd sire. Both his dam and sire’s dam have “Superior Genetics” designations and Champagne already has two legs toward her permanent championship. There is a lot of potential in these kids!
Champagne delivered triplets on the afternoon of March 12th. Kati was the primary mid-wife and she did a fine job getting all the kids off to a good start. Champagne is proving to be a good mom – attentive but not overly obsessed.
We’re excited to see how she does on milk test and are planning to retain a doeling from this breeding, but have not yet finalized our decision. We are limiting the number of kids we keep this year so our final choices will need to wait until we get the rest of the kids on the ground.
We started off the show season with a bang this year as our newest doeling, Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne, took home Grand Champion Nigerian Dwarf Junior Doe at the Little Falls, MN Spring Show. This was a very large three ring show with more than 300 does in attendance and we are very proud of both Champagne and Clayton, whose outstanding showmanship secured his first ADGA grand champion win under judge Ellen Considine.
Nigerian Dwarfs were well represented with 33 Junior does in attendance and about the same for Senior does, but I forgot to write down that number. 🙂
We showed the goats fuzzy (not clipped) because the weather had been so cold and I was very thankful for that decision on show day when it was only 53 degrees with a cold wind. Brrr! Almost everyone wore a coat over their dairy whites and it made for some pretty funny fashions in the show rings.
We are thrilled that Nibbles’ girls, Caramel and Taffy earned 1st and 2nd place in the Jr. Doeling class of six. Taffy has been retained so she will continue her show career with us. Caramel is going to a new home where she will hopefully continue winning for her new owner, Jennifer.
Ribbons are nice, but we all know it’s really all about the milk! We brought a couple of the milking girls with us which means bringing along the milking stand and milking at the show. Clayton got to try out his new milking stand which is his own design and much lighter and easier to take to shows than the one we used to use. Clayton will be making more over the summer to sell so let us know if you need one!
Champagne ended up being the star for the day with two first place wins in her Sr. Doeling class of nine as well as her Grand Champion win but we are proud of all the girls and are quite happy with Glory and Dolly each placing 3rd in their classes. There was very strong competition in the milking classes and they did well hidden under all their winter fuzziness!
