2024 Pricing Policy

We believe in transparent, objective pricing based on proven, officially recorded and verifiable data on record with the ADGA. To that end, we price our kids based on the accomplishments of their parents in:

  • Performance (Milk Test)
  • Conformation (Linear Appraisal)
  • Show Wins
  • Genetics

Prices for kids from first fresheners with no awards start at $450 and increase according to the chart below.   Pet wethers are $160 ($90 when sold with a doe or buck kid). Prices for kids from all breedings have been calculated according to the chart below and posted on the kidding schedule. Prices for adult animals, when available, will take into account their conformation, production, awards, LA scores, show wins, etc.

The prices in each column are added according to the succeeding accomplishment. For example:
-A kid out of a first freshener with a Junior GCH leg ($450 + $50) would be priced at $500.
-A kid out of a Milk Star doe ($450 + $25), that had received an E for Mammary on LA (+$50) and bred to a Star buck (+$25) would be priced at $550.
-A kid out of doe with a permanent championship ($250) designated as Superior Genetics ($50) who milks 1,000 lbs ($75), and is bred to a Star buck (+$25) who’s dam has Elite status (+$25) would be priced at $875. ($450 base price +$425 for cumulative achievements)
Please note that these prices are for pre-reserved kids only.  Once kids are born, prices for unreserved kids may increase.

General Information

Kids are dewormed, vaccinated, disbudded and tattooed before leaving for their new homes at weaning, usually at 10-12 weeks of age. We provide a health care record for each goat and are available to help in the future for questions, advice or mentoring. Wethers are castrated either surgically or by burdizzo so they are healed before going home. We firmly believe this is a better experience for both the wether and his new family as compared to the complications that can result from banding.

All goats are sold as healthy at the time they leave the farm. Breeding stock will be free of disqualifying faults at the time of pick up. If a genetic defect not visible at birth is discovered later, buyer is eligible to receive a replacement goat of equal value. Because the health of a goat is primarily ifluenced by it’s enviroment, diet, and managment, there are no other guarantees to the future health, height, or quality of the animal once they leave our farm. Buyers are expected to provide appropriate nutrition, hoof maintenance and veterinary care. I’m always happy to provide advice and recommendations on care.

Any costs associated with shipping or transportation, including any health certificates, testing, crates, etc., are the responsibility of the buyer.

Reservation Policy

To confirm a reservation, we require a $50 deposit. (Reservations are booked when deposit is received.) If a kid of your reserved gender is not born, you may apply your deposit to another available kid or have your deposit refunded. If a breeding already has two reservations for kids of a particular sex, we will hold your place in line with no deposit required.

Since we can’t predict the number or sex of kids that will be born, we encourage you to let us know your second and third choice should a kid from your first choice breeding not be available.

Because our breeding program is based achieving the highest quality goats based on conformation and production, we do not take reservations for breeding stock based on coat or eye color.

Deposit Policy

After the kids are born, we will notify you if a goat is available from your selected breeding and confirm your selection if there is a choice of multiple kids. Once a contract for purchase is sent, a 50% deposit is required within 10 days or the reservation fee is forfeited and the kid will be offered to the next interested buyer or listed as available for sale. Reservation fees and deposits are not refundable if the buyer cancels the sale. This helps compensate for the lost opportunity to take a reservation or advertise a goat we believed already had a buyer. Thank you for your understanding.

We reserve the right to retain any kid born from our herd up until the sale is completed.  If that happens, you can choose to have your deposit refunded or applied to another kid. If you have any questions on the status of a kid, please contact us for details. Sometimes the decision on whether or not to retain a kid is delayed. (e.g. if we want to retain a kid from a particular sire, we may opt to wait until another doe mated to that same sire kids before determining if a particular kid will be available.)

Registration & Naming Policy

Our standard process is to register and transfer kids to the buyer online after full payment is received. This is the fastest way to get papers in the hands of the new owner. If you would like to use a different process or prefer to have a paper registration signed over at the time of sale, please let me know immediately as this will greatly extend the ADGA turn around time as well as increase ADGA fees.

All breeding stock (buck & doe) kids will be registered with an approved name before they leave the farm. The does in our herd each have a naming theme and kids will be named according to the theme of their dam. Customers are welcome to suggest names they like that fall within the doe’s theme, however we will make the final naming decisions for all kids bearing our herd name.

Payment Policy

All animals must be paid in full before leaving the farm – including the ADGA registration and transfer fees.  2024 ADGA fees are: $10.00 doeling registration, $16.00 buckling registration, and $8.00 transfer fee.

If you prefer to pay the day of pick up, please pay by cash or Venmo. Any online fees are the responsibility of the buyer. If you prefer to pay by check, please mail the check early enough to allow 7 banking days for the check to clear before pickup is scheduled.

Microchip Service

If you would like us to microchip your kids, please let us know ASAP. The microchip number will be submitted at the time of registration to appear on the registration certificate. Microchips are $15 per kid. (See the ADGA Supplemental ID Policy for more information.) We recommend microchips for show goats and herds that do Linear Appraisal. A microchip is peace of mind that you will never lose a show leg or an opportunity to appraise due to a faded tattoo.

DNA Typing Service

If you would like us to DNA type your kids, please let me know and Iwill be happy to collect the sample and submit the paperwork for you. DNA typing is $30 per kid. ADGA requires all bucks born after Jan 1, 2024 to be DNA typed before any progeny can be registered. All bucks in our herd are DNA typed.

4H Animal Identification

If you need tattoo and scrapie information to complete the 4H ID process before your kid is ready to come home, please contact me and I will provide the info needed to successfully identify your kids prior to the annual May 15 deadline.

I am also happy to help provide assistance if local county fair officials try to require you to put a scrapie tag in your goats ear. This is NOT required for dairy goats because their tattoo meets federal Scrapie Identification requirements. If you think this may be an issue in your county, please contact me ahead of time so we can work together to educate your county staff before the fair.

Semen Rights

We reserve the right to purchase 30 straws of semen from any buck sold at the cost of collection fees should we so choose. This includes both bucklings born here and mature bucks which have been used in our breeding program. I am happy to help you coordinate collection or get you started in the wonderful world of Artificial Insemination (AI).

Fertility Guarantee

If a veterinarian determines that a goat is incapable of reproducing due to a genetic defect, the buyer is eligible to receive a replacement goat of equal value. Because infertility is most often caused by environmental factors such as obesity or mineral deficiency, only a goat with a proven genetic defect will be eligible for replacement. The buyer must submit a signed copy of the veterinary report showing genetic infertility.

Discounts

DHIR Milk Test – We offer a discount on selected breedings to herds that have been participating in DHIR Milk Test for 2 or more years. Milk testing is a significant commitment and we greatly appreciate the breeders who make this commitment to help further improvement of the breed. We appreciate your understanding that having plans to start milk testing in the future does not qualify for a discount.

Incentive Program – For those people who put in the work to document the quality of their Cabochon goats, the following rewards are our way of saying thank you. Rewards are applicable toward the purchase of a goat or breeding fee and each reward may be redeemed once per each goat carrying the Cabochon herd name – either by the original purchaser or by the current owner, whoever achieved the accomplishment with the goat.
