Dolly’s Twins

Dolly delivered a beautiful set of twins on February 27th. She is 11 years old now and still healthy, energetic and with an udder as high and tight as ever. Dolly has the longevity we all would like to see in our goats and I am proud to have her in our herd.

Liberty Star Acres Annabelle 2*M (EEEV 90) “Dolly”, has exceled in the show ring with two Grand Champion wins, four Reserve Grand Champion wins and numerous first place wins. Her conformation is proven by Linear Appraisal having twice scored Ex 90. And her production is documented with Advanced Registry DHIR milk test milking over 900 pounds. Her daughter, SG Cabochon ZZ Sierra Nevada 3*M, earned her Superior Genetics designation, two Grand Champion legs and multiple Reserve Grand Champion wins.

The kids’ sire, Cabochon ZZ Sweet William *B, has daughters with multiple show wins and production awards including a Superior Genetics Grand Champion daughter, SGCH Cabochon Petit Sirah 2*M VVEE 90 and his newest daughter Cabochon WM Juniper who is a yearling freshener this year.

Libby’s 2021 Quads

Libby gave us quads for the third year in a row with three doelings and a buckling. That makes her running total 10 doelings and 2 bucklings – not bad for a young third freshener! These kids are bred to be top notch milkers with a pedigree and production data to back them up.

As a yearling first freshener, Libby milked over 1,000 lbs and earned her Superior Genetics award. As a second freshener, she peaked at 6 lbs per day and milked 1,063 in 264 days – I dried her off early so we could breed her to kid earlier in the year. She has large, easy to milk teats and long level lactations that make her a joy to have in the herd.

The sire Cabochon SIG Marco Polo *B AI is a promising young buck out of Cabochon Amelia 3*M VEEE 90. She is also an exceptional milker who produced over 1,100 lbs during her 3rd lactation and scored VEEE 90 on Linear Appraisal. Marco’s sire is Heaven’s Hollow Sig Sauer, the 2015 ADGA Spotlight Sale Nigerian Dwarf Buck. Sig Sauer’s dam is SGCH Wyojem Wendy Kiki *M EEE 91, who has many outstanding accomplishments including 2012 National Reserve Best Udder, 2013 National Champion Nigerian Dwarf, 2014 Top Ten Milk Production, and LA of EEEE 91 at 8 years old.

Dolly’s Twin Bucklings

Dolly once again started off our kidding season delivering twin bucklings on January 10th. These boys are available as herd sires with proven performance on both sides of the pedigree – LA scores of 90 & 91 for dam and sire’s dam, multiple Grand Champions wins on their dam and a SGCH for sire’s dam, and both dam and sire’s dam milk over 900 pounds.

Her daughter, SG Cabochon ZZ Sierra Nevada 3*M, has earned her Superior Genetics designation, two Grand Champion legs and multiple Reserve Grand Champion wins.

The kids’ sire, Cabochon ZZ Dom Pérignon *B “Perry”, brings together exceptional genetics for conformation and production from both his sire and dam.  Perry’s dam, SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M (EX VEEE 91). is a Superior Genetics doe, a permanent champion, and milks over 900 pounds. Perry’s sire, Dynamo Falcon Ziggzag +*B, is proven to increase milk production, teat size and MSL. He has multiple daughters with Superior Genetics, ELITE and EX 90 & 91 LA scores.

Dolly’s Triplet Bucks

Dolly kicked off our 2020 kidding season by delivering triplet bucklings on January 30th. This is Dolly’s eighth freshening and she is just as vigorous and attentive as ever. The boys are growing fast and love a good scratch and cuddle.

Their sire, Cabochon ZZ Dom Pérignon, brings together exceptional genetics for conformation and production from both his sire and dam.  Perry’s dam, SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M (EX VEEE 9i). is a permanent champion, has a Superior Genetics designation who milks over 900 pounds.

Their dam, Liberty Star Acres Annabelle 2*M (EEEV 90) “Dolly”, excels in the show ring, conformation and production. Dolly’s On-Time Triplets

For the second year in a row, Dolly delivered right on her due date. I wish they all did that! Dolly was also very cooperative in that she delivered at 2:30 in the afternoon instead of the dreaded 2:30 a.m. delivery. Both Kati and Clayton were home from school just in time to oversee getting the kids cleaned up and make sure they were nursing well.

Dolly gave us all bucklings this year and I think we might be saving a couple as buck prospects.

Buckling #1 is a flashy buckskin with white overlay. We’ve nicknamed him “Ovaltine” because he has a perfect oval on his side and he is the color of chocolate milk. B1Web

Buckling #2 is an equally flashy black and white boy with moon spots. He’s discovered the joy of jumping and is almost impossible to get a photo of because he’s always launching himself into the air as soon as you try to take a photo.B2CloseUpWebBuckling #3 is a very dairy buckskin with moon spots. His color is more subdued than his brothers but he makes up for it with his sweet personality and his refined dairy character.B3Web

Here’s a few bonus photos just because they are so darned cute…

Champagne Debuts as Grand Champion

Clayton's First Grand Champion Win

We started off the show season with a bang this year as our newest doeling, Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne, took home Grand Champion Nigerian Dwarf Junior Doe at the Little Falls, MN Spring Show.  This was a very large three ring show with more than 300 does in attendance and we are very proud of both Champagne and Clayton, whose outstanding showmanship secured his first ADGA grand champion win under judge Ellen Considine.

Nigerian Dwarfs were well represented with 33 Junior does in attendance and about the same for Senior does, but I forgot to write down that number. 🙂

We showed the goats fuzzy (not clipped) because the weather had been so cold and I was very thankful for that decision on show day when it was only 53 degrees with a cold wind. Brrr! Almost everyone wore a coat over their dairy whites and it made for some pretty funny fashions in the show rings.

Caramel and Taffy stand 1st and 2nd in a class of six

We are thrilled that Nibbles’ girls, Caramel and Taffy earned 1st and 2nd place in the Jr. Doeling class of six. Taffy has been retained so she will continue her show career with us. Caramel is going to a new home where she will hopefully continue winning for her new owner, Jennifer.

Clayton milking Hurricane

Ribbons are nice, but we all know it’s really all about the milk! We brought a couple of the milking girls with us which means bringing along the milking stand and milking at the show. Clayton got to try out his new milking stand which is his own design and much lighter and easier to take to shows than the one we used to use. Clayton will be making more over the summer to sell so let us know if you need one!

Champagne stands 1st in a class of nine senior doelings

Champagne ended up being the star for the day with two first place wins in her Sr. Doeling class of nine as well as her Grand Champion win but we are proud of all the girls and are quite happy with Glory and Dolly each placing 3rd in their classes. There was very strong competition in the milking classes and they did well hidden under all their winter fuzziness!

The Two Annabelles

I remember when we brought home Chloe and her baby. The first order of business was to name the sweet little doeling. Considering her registered name was Liberty Star Acres Annabelle, it probably seems like Annabelle would have been the obvious choice. But we already had an Annabelle-a beautiful, extremely rare American Milking Devon calf. So our little doeling became “Dolly”.

This year our two Annabelles coordinated their efforts and both presented us with babies on Sunday, just hours apart. Annabelle the cow delivered a healthy, friendly heifer calf and Annabelle the goat (Dolly) delivered bouncing twin bucklings.American Milkng Devon cow with Hereford cross calf

It was truly a Sunday filled with blessings of the sweetest kind!
