Queen Mab’s Quadruplets

Mab went above and beyond all of our expectations by delivering quadruplets as a first freshener at 1:30 a.m. on March 4th. Thank goodness for baby monitors! She delivered so quickly and easily that she had all four delivered in the few minutes it took me to hop out of bed and run down to our maternity ward in the garage. Mab was understandably a bit stunned by what had just happened, so I helped her out by wiping off the kids’s faces and bringing them around in front of her and she took it from there.

Mab is on the small side and her kids were pretty little too, with the smallest doe being only 1 pound 9 ounces at birth. I monitored them very closely the first few days to make sure all was well and they never missed a beat. Mab is taking well to motherhood and making more than enough milk for all the kids.

I really love how refined these kids are and I’m already thinking of repeating this breeding next year. Mab’s udder looks very promising and I am eager to see what her number are on her first milk test and to get her into the show ring this spring.

Stormstruck’s 2020 Quads

Stormstruck once again gave us quadruplets with 3 does and a buck delivered on February 28th. The pedigree on these kids is absolutely stacked for performance top and bottom. Both dam and sire’s dam are Superior Genetics Grand Champions with VEEE 91 LA scores. We are expecting these kids to be all around performers who can milk 1,000 pounds plus per lactation.

On their maternal side, both their dam, SGCH Carl B’s Stormstruck 2*M (VEEE 91), and grand-dam have earned ADGA’s Superior Genetics designation. Stormstuck’s daughter, SG Cabochon AR Windsong 3*M , and granddaughter, SG Cabochon ZZ Calliope 4*M , are both ADGA Elite does.

On their paternal side, the sire’s dam, SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M (VEEE 91) , is a stunning doe with a beautiful mammary. Their sire’s sire, Dynamo Falcon Ziggzag (VEE 90), has excellent conformation (scoring Ex 90 twice on Linear Appraisal) and brings phenomenal milk production. His dam is litter mate sister to the dam of the all-time high producing Nigerian, SG Sugar Moon V Zuzanna 4*M. He also has two SG Daughters in our herd: SG Cabochon ZZ Sierra Nevada 3*M and SG Cabochon ZZ Calliope who made her debut on the Elite doe list at the 98th percentile as a yearling first freshener.

Because we believe strongly in supporting those who do performance testing and contribute data to improve the Nigerian Dwarf breed, a discount will be available for homes that participate in DHIR Milk Test and Linear Appraisal.

Windsong’s Quadruplets

Windsong delivered quadruplets on February 19th with 3 bucklings and a doeling. The family is doing well and Windsong is feeding them all with plenty of milk to go around.

Windsong is an extremely heavy milker who milked an amazing 1,310 pounds in 305 days in her second lactation making the Elite doe list. She then continued on to milk for 582 days straight producing 2,099 pounds which put her on the Elite list again in 2019 while milking through!

The boys will be available and we are retaining the doeling for now. Please contact me if you would like to be notified if she becomes available later.

Penelope’s Quadruplets

Penelope delivered an adorably matched set of Mini Alpine quadruplets on February 15th – 2 does, 2 bucks. Just like last year, Penelope waited until Kati could be with her before delivering. I kept an eye on her most of the night and all morning while she pawed and paced but refused to deliver. Once Kati returned from her violin lesson and checked in on Penelope, it was less than 10 minutes before baby number one was on the ground. Was there ever a stronger bond between a girl and her goat?

Our Mini Alpine kids are registered with the Miniature Dairy Goat Association and come from parents with quality proven by Linear Appraial scores and milk test data. Their dam, Carl B’s BJ PenelopeRose *M (VEVV 89), has scores of Excellent in the all important back, rump and mammary system. Their sire, Aubrey’s Acres Phan Boy (VEE 90), delivers solid udders while reducing overall size.

Mini Alpines make wonderful homestead milk goats who can produce almost a gallon a day of rich, delicious milk – perfect for drinking fresh or making cheese and ice cream.

All four kids are available. Contact us for more information.

Dolly’s Triplet Bucks

Dolly kicked off our 2020 kidding season by delivering triplet bucklings on January 30th. This is Dolly’s eighth freshening and she is just as vigorous and attentive as ever. The boys are growing fast and love a good scratch and cuddle.

Their sire, Cabochon ZZ Dom Pérignon, brings together exceptional genetics for conformation and production from both his sire and dam.  Perry’s dam, SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M (EX VEEE 9i). is a permanent champion, has a Superior Genetics designation who milks over 900 pounds.

Their dam, Liberty Star Acres Annabelle 2*M (EEEV 90) “Dolly”, excels in the show ring, conformation and production. She has two Grand Champion wins, four Reserve Grand Champions and numerous first place wins. She has twice scored Ex 90 on linear appraisal and exceeded 900 pounds in her last lactation.

2020 Kidding Schedule is Up

It’s finally here – the Cabochon Farm 2020 Kidding Schedule is posted!

Our breeding lineup is full of proven does including seven Superior Genetics does, two ELITE does, two permanent champions, and numerous does with Grand Champion wins.

All of our milking does have earned their Advanced Registry Milk Stars and we have 6 years of Linear Appraisals so you can make data driven decisions on what breeding is the best fit for your herd. And because healthy goats are our top priority, our herd is health tested and negative for CAE, CL and Johne’s.

Check out our 2020 Kidding Schedule and let us know what’s on your wish list for the spring!

Sassafras’ Twins

Sassafras delivered twin doelings on May 2nd. She had a very short and easy labor and quickly settled into motherhood.

Sassafras is a beautiful, structurally correct doe with excellent general appearance. She has always been one of those does who catches your eye every time she walks past.  And the judges agreed because Sassafras earned her first Grand Champion win as a senior kid at her very first show.

We are expecting these girls to have exceptional milk production. Their sire,
Dynamo Falcon Ziggzag (VEE 90), has multiple sisters and aunts on the Elite doe list and his daughters are very heavy milkers. Our first daughter from Ziggzag, Cabochon ZZ Sierra Nevada, earned her Superior Genetics  on her first lactation as a milking yearling and already has two Grand Champion legs.

Champagne’s Twins

Champagne gave us two beautiful kids – a buck and doe. Unfortunately she had a very hard delivery this year with a malpositioned kid and we lost a third boy. Many thanks to Dr. Nord from Mille Lacs Veterinary Clinic for assisting with the delivery and ensuring Champagne made a full recovery. Champagne is back to her normal self and her kids are thriving.

These kids bring together exceptional genetics for conformation and production from both their sire and dam. Champagne earned an ADGA Superior Genetics award on her very first lactation and at only 2 years old. At three years old, she won her third Grand Champion win in the show ring finishing her permanent championship, scored VEEE 90 on Linear Appraisal and milked more than 900 lbs.  That’s a lot to accomplish at only three years old!

Ziggzag has excellent conformation (scoring FS 90 twice on Linear Appraisal) and brings phenomenal milk production.  His maternal granddam (Zippy) milked an incredible 1,600# in 305 days.  His paternal granddam (Fluer) won 6 Best Udder awards in addition to 3 Grand Champions and 4 Reserve Champions. Ziggy’s first daughter in our herd, SG Cabochon ZZ Sierra Nevada 3*M, earned a Superior Genetics Designation on her very first lactation milking 831 pounds as a yearling first freshener .

The quality behind these kids is apparent – they are long and wide with straight legs and amazing rumps. And they are so friendly that they are just a joy to be around. We are retaining both of these magnificent kids for our breeding program.

Whirlwind’s Twins

Cabochon CN Whirlwind Romance delivered twin blue eyed doelings on April 17th – just in time since I had to fly out of town for work the next day. Whirlwind had an easy birth and is doing a great job taking care of her girls.

Whirlwind earned her first Reserve Grand Champion win last year as a senior kid. Since she is a young yearling first freshener, we may wait until next year to get her back into the show ring.

We are expecting these girls to have lovely udders courtesy of their sire, Aubrey’s Acres Phan Boy. We are very happy with the udder structure of his other daughters in our herd.

Sierra’s Buckling

Kidding season is always exciting, but it’s even more of a thrill when you have a Superior Genetics doe bred AI to a Champion buck with 11 Grand Champion wins, 4 Best Buck in Show awards and the grandson of the legendary Twin Creeks BH Bay Watch.

Sierra finally delivered on this exciting match on April 16 with a single large buckling that is built just like his daddy – power and width throughout.

Sierra (SG Cabochon ZZ Sierra Nevada 3*M) is an exceptional young doe who milked 831 pounds as a yearling first freshener! We expect her to milk over 1,200 pounds as a three year old. Sierra also excels in the show ring having already earned two Grand Champion wins. And did I mention she received the ADGA Superior Genetics designation as a first freshener?

We are offering this buckling as a herd sire for $800.
