Mab went above and beyond all of our expectations by delivering quadruplets as a first freshener at 1:30 a.m. on March 4th. Thank goodness for baby monitors! She delivered so quickly and easily that she had all four delivered in the few minutes it took me to hop out of bed and run down to our maternity ward in the garage. Mab was understandably a bit stunned by what had just happened, so I helped her out by wiping off the kids’s faces and bringing them around in front of her and she took it from there.
Mab is on the small side and her kids were pretty little too, with the smallest doe being only 1 pound 9 ounces at birth. I monitored them very closely the first few days to make sure all was well and they never missed a beat. Mab is taking well to motherhood and making more than enough milk for all the kids.
I really love how refined these kids are and I’m already thinking of repeating this breeding next year. Mab’s udder looks very promising and I am eager to see what her number are on her first milk test and to get her into the show ring this spring.
