Chenin’s Triplets

One of my favorite things about Chenin is how easily she kids. She delivered triplets in about 15 minutes this year which is a blessing when you’re in the middle of a hectic kidding season!

Chenin is a nice all-around doe. She milked 984 lbs last year and scored VVEV 88 on linear appraisal. Chenin’s strongest points are her incredible depth of body, nice straight legs and her large, correctly placed teats.

The kids’ sire, Cabochon ZZ Sweet William *B, has daughters with multiple show wins and production awards including a Superior Genetics Grand Champion daughter, SGCH Cabochon Petit Sirah 2*M VVEE 90 and his newest daughter Cabochon WM Juniper who will be a yearling freshener this year.

Chenin’s Quadruplets

Chenin easily delivered quadruplets in the afternoon on February 25th and she has been doing a great job caring for them. The kids are a fun mix of colors and with nice conformation and should be solid milkers that fill the pail.

Chenin milked peaked at 4 pounds as a first freshener and milked 734 pounds in a shortened lactation of 279 days. (Unfortunately, I had to dry off some of the girls early last year due to overtime requirements at work.)

The kids’ sire, Cabochon DJ Casanova *B, is a beautiful buck and his dam, Liberty Star Acres Annabelle 2*M EEEV 90, has multiple Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion wins after starting her show career later in life.

Chenin’s Triplets

Chenin easily delivered triplets just after midnight on March 20th. It took her a little while to warm up to the new, wet, squiggly things in her pen and she ultimately decided that two kids was enough responsibility for a first time mom. So the third boy has become a bottle kid who now rules both the house and the barn while his brother and sister hang out with mom.

These kids are line bred on one of our favorite does, SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M VEEE 91, and we are planning to retain the doeling. Chenin milked an impressesive 3.7 pounds on her first milk test and I’m eager to see how she performs throughout the year.
