2019 Kids

Libby exceeded all expectations by delivering an amazing set of quadruplet doelings on March 4th. As a first freshener, she didn’t have a lot of room for all those kids to get positioned properly for birth so I had to do a bit of rearranging to help things along. Once all the kids were on the ground, Libby took over like the star performer that she is. The strength of her milking lines really shines through. Even though she is only a first freshener, Libby is making enough milk for all four kids which isn’t much of a surprise given her pedigree.

Libby’s maternal family is filled with Superior Genetics does. Her dam, SG Carl B’s RA Licorice Nib *M , half sister, SGCH Carl B’s Stormstruck 2*M
(VEEE 91) , and niece, SG Cabochon AR Windsong 3*M have all earned the ADGA Superior Genetics designation putting them in the top 15% of Nigerian Dwarf goats.

The sire to these doelings, Cabochon XY Prosecco, has Superior Genetics does on both side of his pedigree. His dam is SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M (VEEE 90) and his sire’s dam is SG AGS Pocket Sized TB Xara (VEEE 90).

Penelope gave us an adorable pair of buck/doe twins on February 13th. She clearly wanted her birth to be attended by her favorite person because she pawed & paced for hours while she waited for Kati to get home from school. Once Kati was by her side, she got down to business and quickly delivered these adorable sweethearts.

These quality Mini Alpine kids will be registered with the Miniature Dairy Goat Association. Their dam, Carl B’s BJ PenelopeRose *M, has an LA score of VEVE 88 with scores of Excellent in the all important back, rump and mammary system. Their sire, Cabochon DJ Casanova *B, brings quality as well. Both his dam and his sire’s dam have received “Excellent” scores on their mammary systems and both of his kids that we have retained have earned thier Grand Champion Jr. Doeling leg.

Penelope’s 2016 daughter, Cabochon AR Buttercup, is proving why Mini Alpines are such wonderful homestead milk goats. On her very first lacatation, Buttercup gave almost a gallon per day at peak. We expect this doeling to to be an amazing milker as well, just like her sister.

Maple started off our kidding season by delivering triplets in the wee hours of the morning (1:30 am!) on February 13th. She probably would have delivered a few hours earlier except the little doeling who was first in line was breech and slowing things down. After letting Maple push for as long as I was comfortable, I woke up Clayton to hold her while I repositioned baby. After that, Maple delivered all the kids quickly and took charge as the very capable mother that she is.

We’re excited about the pedigree on these kids. Their sire, Cabochon XY Prosecco, has Superior Genetics awards on both sides of his pedigree and has strong dairy character with great angularity and openness. His dam is SGCH Carl B’s OH Sweet Champagne *M (EX VEEE 90).

Their dam, Cabochon PB Mapleshade 4*M, comes from a line of proven milkers and has a beautiful, correct udder with soft, easily expressed teats. Maple scored an 88 on Linear Appraisal last year which is the highest score possible for a first freshener. Maple’s 2018 doeling, Cabochon XY Sassafras, won Grand Champion Jr Doeling at her very first show.
